t’s strange how the death of one musical group can be exactly the sort of catalyst needed to spawn another. KOAN Sound are certainly a highly gifted example of this phenomenon. It was in 2008 that KOAN Sound emerged from the ashes of several other musical endeavours, fusing passion for electronic music with sheer musical intuition. Since then KOAN Sound have continued to develop, synthesising ever more complex and inspirational patterns. And with influences such as The Prodigy, Amon Tobin and Noisia, it’s not hard to see why KOAN Sound productions are synonymous with dark gripping basslines; elegantly mastered and meticulously executed.
Support is nothing but exponential for KOAN Sound. The group’s creative and above all original ethos has granted them well deserved credibility from producers, DJ and music fans alike. These include Aphex Twin, Pendulum, Zane Lowe and Rusko. Armed with a creative diversity second to none, they have set themselves apart from their peers and continue to push music not restrained by tempo or genre, all connected by their trademark ‘KOAN’ sound.
Keep your ears to the ground: KOAN Sound have arrived.
Culprate’s musical intuition started at the age of just 13 when he decided to learn the guitar. By the age of 15, Culprate’s passion and creativity really came into bloom as he was introduced to electronic music, and of course how to produce it, at college. From then on it was simply a matter of time before his driven persona and growing production skills resulted in mind blowing anthems, tearing their way through clubs around the world.
Having established various releases on various record labels, the time has come for Culprate to gain some real direction. The 5 Star EP via Inspected Records marks a new era for Culprate. Aptly named, the EP is massively anticipated, and has already gained the support from the likes of KOAN Sound, Gemini & Skrillex. Admittedly, Culprate’s releases have always been a tad sporadic, but the 5 Star EP is certainly the result of careful planning and meticulous attention to detail.
It’s fair to say that Culprate is a household name in the underground world of dubstep. However, he is far from content, admitting recently he would love to get his hands on some hardware to take his production to the next level. And with influences ranging from Squarepusher to Amon Tobin, only Culprate could tell you what sort of production the future holds. But from what we’ve seen already, we know it’ll be good.
A well respected producer within the Australian Bass Music community and highly sought after within the festival circuit, Goosebumpz is consistently booked nationwide for large, reputable outdoor festivals, some of which have included Splendour in the Grass, Rainbow Serpent Festival, Strawberry Fields, Maitreya, Earth Frequency, Wide Open Space, Deliverance, Manifest and the 2012 Eclipse Festival in FNQLD.
With four Canadian tours under his belt already, Goosebumpz has performed at festivals overseas such as Shambhala, Bass Coast, Motion Notion, Astral Harvest and Entheos Gathering. He’s rocked well known sound camps and art cars at Burning Man like Fractal Nation / Planet, the Buddha Lounge and the Mayan Warrior and has also headlined a string of indoor shows at venues across British Columbia.
He’s followed heavyweight performers like Bassnectar (2009), performed alongside legendary live acts such as Tipper, Opiuo and Vibesquad and has also enjoyed time in the charts for his original music on both Beatport and Addictech on many occasions.
With an arsenal of fresh, phat, cheeky beats and an energetic approach to his live performances, Goosebumpz is very excited to deliver his eclectic style at festivals and indoor shows around the World throughout 2015.

Roni Size & Dynamite MC + Special Guest Ulterior MotivePosted: Monday, May 4th, 2015
Twisted Audio are proud and excited to welcome one of the most influential individuals in the history of Drum n Bass Roni Size on his long awaited return to Australia/NZ this coming May, with partner in crime Dynamite MC!
Special guests Ulterior Motive will also be joining the party to celebrate the release of their debut album ‘The Fourth Wall’, out now on Metalheadz.
This event is expected to sell out – please share the tickets link with your friends and crew to avoid disappointment.
Friday 8th of May – 10pm till 5am – Railway Hotel (291 Albert st. Brunswick)
Support: Monkee, Lickweed, Inter:Sperce, Token
Roni started on the path of production when he was thrown out of school aged 16, but music had always been a part of his life. Born and raised in Bristol, the sounds of the 70s blues parties and sound-systems happening in the St Pauls area of the city infected Roni’s bones.
Meeting up with Krust in the early 90s brought two musically compatible minds together, subsequently creating Full Cycle in 1993 and a new direction for electronic music.
Having built a name for himself through Full Cycle and other labels, such as Talkin’ Loud, ‘Roni Size & Reprazent’ took the world by storm in 1997 with their New Forms LP. Winning the Mercury Music Prize boosted their international status and the world awoke to the sound of Roni Size and Full Cycle. Thanks to such modern day classics as ‘Watching Windows’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Brown Paper Bag’, the album quickly went platinum.
In 1999 with Die, Roni produced the highly acclaimed Breakbeat Era album and later that year released the long awaited second project from Reprazent, ‘In the Mode’ which included collaborations with hip-hop legend Method Man, Rage Against The Macine’s Zac de la Rocha and beat-box master Rahzel.
2002 saw the release of ‘Touching Down’, Roni’s first truly solo album and one of the biggest selling independent d&b albums to date. Then in 2005 Roni came back to ‘V’ with the release of ‘Return To V’ which included the top 20 hit ‘No More’ with Beverley Knight.
Roni Size resurrected Reprazent in 2008 with the release of a deluxe edition of his Mercury Music Prize winning album ‘New Forms’ on Universal in 2008. Reforming the band, they toured the biggest festivals in Europe and were amongst the nominations for best dance act from the UK Festival Awards.
Roni & Reprazent recently collaborated with the BBC’s Nature’s Great Events composer, William Goodchild, to play a landmark gig with an Orchestra and Choir to mark the re-opening of Bristol’s Colston Hall. The night was rightly dubbed as the “show that we’ll be talking about for years to come.”
With so much already accomplished in his career, its no surprise that this year is set to be a busy time for Roni. Currently in the studio producing his next Roni Size album, whilst also working with the band on a new Roni & Reprazent album, stay tuned to hear about these soon.
Ulterior Motive are at the top of their game in 2015. The debut album TheFourth Wall has been exceptionally well received by press and fans alike, award nominations and UK top 40 chart success has follow edits release. At the end of 2014 the album regularly appeared within top 10 lists across all genres, a triumph for all concerned.
As DJs Ulterior Motive have performed at festivals and clubs across the globe to rapturous audiences, the pair have become known for their DJ sets from London to Colombia.
As producers they’ve remixed notable artists, collaborated with the cream of drum and bass producers and have been requested as sound designers for forthcoming projects in new media.
As Metalheadz goes from strength to strength so do Ulterior Motive there is a firm commitment to quality over quantity that continues to set the label and the duo apart from their peers.

BBA & Twisted Audio present Icicle, June Miller and Mind VortexPosted: Sunday, April 5th, 2015
BBA & Twisted Audio combine forces to present one massive show featuring Icicle (NL, Shogun Audio), Mind Vortex (UK, Ram Records) & June Miller (NL, Ram Records)
Roxanne Parlour, Friday April 17th
Over a year since Icicle’s last visit to Australia & New Zealand, Jeroen Snik returns to our shores this April alongside his recently released and acclaimed album ‘Entropy’. Entropy delivered his most developed and ferocious music to date and without a doubt his next visit to Australia and New Zealand will show that Icicle has once again raised the bar – receiving much acclaim from top players in the scene and bass music lovers around the globe. This April, Icicle will play 6 shows across the South Pacific Including Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington from Friday 17th through to Sunday 26th April 2015
Sometimes all it takes is one tune. One tune and that’s it: your life will never be the same again. For schoolmates Laurie Carroll and Stefan Anfield is was Resonant Evil’s Renegade Hardware 2003 classic ‘Troubleshoot’. The second they heard those haunted chords and sneering, snarling bassline they knew drum & bass was going to be a major force in their life. The shamanic state it left them in even influenced their name: Mind Vortex.
Classically trained musicians, Laurie on the clarinet and saxophone, Stef on the piano, the pair both dropped out of their jazz bands the following day. Picking up old bits of hardware and whatever software they could afford, the duo spent the following six years chiselling their craft. Soaking up influences far and wide; soul, jazz, funk and classical were all added to the menu as the pair munched through music, digging deep to understand what made certain tracks so powerful and all the best hooks come with that tangible sense of magic.
2009: research and development over, they were confident they had a sound sharp enough to unleash. They wrote a wishlist of labels they wanted to work with. Ram was top of that list, so they picked up the phone.
The rest is D&B history! Ram instantly recognised Laurie and Stefan’s talents and, after a debut on Plush Recordings, signed them exclusively. ‘Now It’s Time’ and ‘Onslaught’ were the first signs of Mind Vortex’s presence on Ram. Debuted on Andy C’s critically acclaimed ‘Nightlife 5′ mix, they instantly reflected the duos understanding of the wider extremities of drum & bass science. While ‘Now It’s Time’ showed a knack for funky hooks and well executed vocal work, ‘Onslaught’ proved the pair had just as much knowledge of the darkside with its unrelenting bass texture and cunning sense of classical drama.
Trace the very tendrils of drum & bass and you’ll hit hardcore. Acid house’s ugly little brother, its extremities resonated with a whole generation, boosting them with an energy and focus the dancefloor had never experienced before. Trace the very tendrils of June Miller and you’ll hit a wholly different type of hardcore… But a very similar story.
A transcontinental duo, Mark McCann and Bart van Dijk met under bizarre circumstances. Mark ran a small independent record label in the UK, Bart played guitar in a Dutch hardcore punk band Deluge. Neither of them knew of each other’s existence. One morning Mark received Deluge’s album ‘Spot In The Shadow’. Unsolicited, to this very day he still doesn’t know who sent the CD to him. Pressing play, the band’s uncompromising energy and attitude instantly inspired him. He picked
up the phone and organised a UK tour.
Extensive jaunts around Europe, during which Mark and Bart had formed an incurable alliance. Bonded by the fine balance of hardcore’s beauty and brutality, they started exploring other genres of music, eager to find the same unabated spirit they loved so much. It didn’t take long before they struck gold: drum & bass. The ruthless sound design, the unashamed drive and fiery tempered tempos; the switch came naturally.
Applying their musical knowledge and intuition to drum & bass they got to work, picking up production skills and learning the scene’s roots with the fever that initially united them. Within a year they felt confident enough to get their material out there. June Miller was born.
