Matrix & Futurebound

Matrix & Futurebound need little introduction, both having had illustrious careers in their own right. Matrix first broke through with his slick techno infused classic, ‘Sleepwalk’ album on Virus Recordings, later scoring chart acclaim under his house pseudonym ‘Goldtrix’ with the top 5 hit, ‘It’s Love Trippin’. Meanwhile, Futurebound had early success on labels such as Moving Shadow, Infrared, Hospital and Breakbeat Kaos before launching his own Viper Recordings in 2004, now recognised as a powerhouse in the bass music scene.

When Matrix & Futurebound combined their powers to unleash the seminal ‘Universal Truth’ long player in 2007, the skillful fusion of epic melodic soundscapes with heavyweight dancefloor production and original vocals defined a whole new era in DnB. Soon the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Justin Timberlake, Moby, Sasha, and Skepta soon knocking at the door for remix duties and a whole new generation of acts such as ShockOne, Brookes Brothers, and Camo & Krooked inspired to follow suit.

2011 saw the duo launch their ‘Worldwide’ mix compilation series which was the perfect snapshot of the electronic bass music landscape in 2011, keeping a sharp focus on the freshest drum & bass around whilst also drawing on dubstep and electro to capture the sound of a Matrix & Futurebound live set in all of its glory.

Now in 2012, Matrix & Futurebound have opened a new chapter as they work towards the release of their second artist album. The first single, ‘All I Know’ which features vocalist Luke Bingham was the first peak at the forthcoming project. Having cracked the official UK Top 40 charts at #26 and reigning supreme on BBC Radio 1 “B” and 1Xtra “A” playlist, the single sets the perfect tone for what is to come over the next 12 months from Matrix & Futurebound.

Luka Per aka Smooth was introduced to music at the age of 10, when he began to practice piano. After practicing for 3 years and later on he became more interested in guitar, also in such genres as metal, hardcore etc. When a couple of years passed by he attended his first drum n bass party and he was hooked!

It was very soon after that he decided not just to love this music but also to make his own tunes. His first release was ‘Lost Cause’ in 2005 on Touchin’ Down Records. As he researched sound more and more, he decided that his sound just wasn’t good enough, so he shut himself in the studio and waited until 2008 when his improving sound was noticed by Dementia. Together with Rregula they released ‘Obfuscate’ on Trust in Music 12″. Following this, he released ‘Space Attack’ on Recon and the massive ‘Out of Time’ on Ruse records.

fter hearing ‘Under The Moon’ which would appear on Viper Recordings ‘Acts of Mad Men’ album, Smooth was signed to the label and later went onto release his first single ‘7th Sense’ / ‘Squirm’ (feat. KG) on Viper’s sister label, Viper VIP. Smooth is also one half of Telekinesis who recently made their debut on Breed 12 Inch label, as well as one third of City of Dogs, whose track ‘Absolutely Flawless’ was featured on Pendulum’s Radio1 Essential Mix.

2011 has been Smooth’s breakout year, starting off with the massive single ‘Feel So Free’ on Viper VIP, which was followed by ‘Calling’ and Smooth’s absolutely immense remix of the Matrix & Futurebound classic ‘Strength 2 Strength’ on Viper’s ‘Worldwide 001′ album. This was followed by two tracks on Viper’s ‘Summer Slammers 2011′ album, with ‘Want It’ and ‘Alienated’ (as Telekinesis).

Now heading into 2012, Smooth is preparing to release his debut EP – ‘Blinded By The Light’ – due out in January and featuring ‘Shifting Sands (feat. Shaz Sparks)’, ‘Cosmos’ and ‘Cyberfunk’.

Twisted Audio residents support Rudeimental & Emalkay

Posted: Friday, September 28th, 2012

The UK quartet is currently dominating dance floors and airwaves alike garnering a huge following and rave reviews from critics and artists alike.

Joining them will be Birmingham based grime, garage and dark styled dubstep producer EMALKAY and Ninja Tune’s wonderboy SLUGABED who blends influences both classic and contemporary styles from the outermost reaches of dubstep, hip hop and beyond.

Finally, Melbourne favourite IKONIKA whose incomparable DJ stylings absolutely slayed dance floors on her last visit to Australia.

Proudly supported by Future Entertainment, Nova, ITM, Channel [v] and AIAIAI.

There’s no doubt about it, British electronic outfit Rudimental have arrived. And in style!
Their smash hit single ‘Feel The Love’ blazed into the UK charts debuting at number 1 on both the single and dance charts. Now they’re making some serious waves down here in Oz – ‘Feel The Love’ is currently sitting happily at #1 on the I-Tunes singles and the I-Tunes dance charts AND #3 on the ARIA singles and national airplay charts!

The London based 4 piece have had their feet firmly planted in the underground music scene for sometime. Hailing from Hackney (a veritable hub for all things underground), the boys have crossed paths with some of the great pioneers of their craft over the years such as fellow East Londoners Plan B, Professor Green and Labrinth to name a few.

Now the London based lads get set to bring their anthemic electronic soul down under for the first time playing a string of intimate DJ sets. Feel The Love, already a favourite on Triple J, is gearing up to be a massive summer hit. One thing’s for certain, Rudimental will be dominating dance floors and airwaves alike in the coming months and these exclusive shows are not to be missed. They will sell out!

*Premiered as HOTTEST RECORD IN THE WORLD on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 in the UK*

A brilliant and inimitable producer, Emalkay refuses to define himself by anything other than his own musical evolution. From his early years producing grime and garage, right through to 2011 and with the release of debut album ‘Eclipse’, he has continued to break new ground and move forward with each and every track he makes.

A handful of carefully chosen remixes for Pendulum, Faithless and Miike Snow, have opened up the ears of a whole new audience to Emalkay’s music, and as a consequence, a burgeoning DJ schedule has seen him bring his music to bigger crowds, taking in a number of festivals on the way.

Blending influences both classic and contemporary, from the outermost reaches of dubstep, hip hop and beyond, Slugabed has received unanimous praise for his first Ninja Tune releases since signing to the label last year, amid much anticipation for his forthcoming debut album. Under his Slugabed alias, 22 year-old Greg Feldwick creates music which is at once complex, deep, thoughtful and above all distinctive. It channels the energy of the best of todays bass music, through spacey bleeps and meditative melodies to explore the outermost reaches of electronic music making today.

With an already impressive catalogue of official remixes for the likes of Starkey, Eprom and Kelpe under his belt, he also created his own unofficial version of Pharoah Monch’s classic ‘Simon Says’ which devastated dancefloors worldwide. However, it was arguably his ‘Ultra Heat Treated’ EP, released in 2009 on the prestigious Planet Mu label, that propelled Slugabed furthest into the spotlight, winning him new support and glowing reviews across the board, as well as interest from some of the best cutting-edge record labels around.

“Slugabed is an artist capable of turning great ideas into vast, immaculately enacted and galaxy-spanning visions… stomach shuddering, eye-bleeding, ear- bursting bass music.” Clash

Last time IKONIKA [UK] came here she destroyed nightclubs across the country in support of her highly acclaimed Contact, Want, Love, Have album out on Hyperdub in 2009. Since then she’s displayed her un-imitable DJ stylings at some of the worlds greatest electronic music festivals. Still releasing exclusively on Hyperdub & her own label Humm & Buzz (Brenmar/Dro Carey) Ikonika just dropped her new EP “I Make Lists”.

With what could be your last ever chance to witness one of Drum & Bass’s most successful duo’s, Commix comes to our shores for a tour to test the highly anticipated new album! Headlining the evening we have none other than Friction, a true legend of the scene with some of the biggest releases in Drum & Bass over the past 12months. Friction is not only a well respected producer but also a true bad man on the decks, mixing it up across 3 turntables with lighting speed with impeccable beat matching and tune selection to match….this will be an evening to remember for years to come!!

Brighton raised multi award winning Friction is one of the most revered and recognised names in bass music today. Having risen steadily through the ranks since the late 90′s as arguably the most adept and most ferocious DJ/producer in the scene, Friction now holds court in the D&B Hall Of Fame thanks to his inauguration at the 2011 Drum & Bass Arena Awards.

Friction has a vast catalogue behind him and has worked with most of the major labels in D&B including Hospital and Metalheadz however it was in 2004 when he founded the now infamous record label Shogun Audio that really pushed the Friction name further into the musical limelight. Whilst DJ’ing across the world every weekend and heading up the juggernaut record label Shogun Audio Friction has achieved much commercial success but always keeps his feet firmly on the ground, he was announced at the start or this year as the new face of Radio 1′s flagship Drum & Bass show he is set for even more accolade in 2012 and beyond.

Described by Pete Tong as ‘one of the big dogs’ Friction looks set to hit dizzying new heights in his career this year as he continues to trail blaze his way through the ever-evolving musical landscape. So whether you’re catching his radio show or a DJ set anywhere from Glastonbury, EDC in LA, to Sydney or Toyko you’ll be sure Friction never disappoints.

Anyone who was listening to electronic music, and particularly drum & bass, in 2007 will clearly remember the arrival of Commix’ debut album ‘Call To Mind’ released on Goldie’s Metalheadz label. A breath of fresh air amongst a sea of Pendu-clones, the Cambridge duo’s place in drum & bass history was assured from the opening bars and their status as exciting electronic music producers was confirmed with critical acclaim across the board.

But music and art are about evolution, and evolving is precisely what Commix are doing. After the release of ‘Call To Mind’ Commix went to ground, throwing themselves into new methods of working and new ways of thinking. While Metalheadz commissioned a full remix version of ‘Call To Mind’, Commix experimented, ruminated and deliberated to ensure that their second artist album would be a worthy successor to their incredible debut.

To signify the change in outlook Commix will now be known as CMX, a name that represents where Commix has come from and where CMX is going. The new sound of CMX represents freedom promoted through musical expression. Relying less on samples and the familiar drum & bass formula, CMX will embrace new styles and tempos, and a heavy influx of analogue equipment to create a new and exciting musical attitude.
