RENE LAVICE:

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Rene LaVice made his drum & bass debut in 2009 on Canadian label Stride Recordings. Infused with four tracks of early LaVice magic, ‘The Future’ EP promised great things, while subsequent singles, collaborations and remixes delivered on those promises and gained attention from record labels across North America and Europe.
His work with veteran producer and fellow Canadian Gremlinz led to remix work on Bad Concept Records and New World Ordio and a release on DSCi4′s ‘Amen Warfare’ LP. This was swiftly followed by more local attention as another of Canada’s biggest exports, John Rolodex, took notice of Rene’s talent and recruited the budding newcomer as a key member and intricate part of his Machinist Music imprint.

As the buzz and hype about this exciting producer began to grow, tastemaker DJs began to regularly support Rene LaVice’s tracks in their sets. From DJ Marky and Sub Focus to Total Science, A Sides, Sigma and TC, the 175bpm elite began to push LaVice’s music and none so hard as Ram Records boss Andy C.
Rene LaVice’s Ram Records debut, ‘Headlock,’ was released on the ‘Dimensions 5’ EP, part of a series that showcases not only Ram’s commitment to diversity, but also to the freshest talent around. Lauded by the likes of Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1, ‘Headlock’ is a defining moment in LaVice’s musical career. A track that insists you take notice, simultaneously packed with subtle references to the golden era of drum & bass while sprinkled liberally with a fresh and exciting outlook on the music we all know and love.
Following the huge success of ‘Headlock,’ Ram Records offered Rene LaVice an exclusive recording contract which will see the young producer catapulted to the highest echelons of the D&B world. While the scene waits with baited breath for his follow up, you can be assured that this impressive and forward-thinking artist will not disappoint.

MIND VORTEX:

Since signing to Ram Records, Mind Vortex have gone from strength to strength, steadily carving their way through the ranks of DnB producers. Their debut single Now it’s Time and Hotbox went straight in at number 1 in the BBC 1xtra’s DnB Chart, with Hotbox remaining number 1 on the Beatport drum and bass chart for over 3 weeks. After being play listed on BBC Xxtra, the single received widespread radio support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Trevor Nelson, Fearne Cotton, Dj Hype, Mistajam, Crissy Criss, to name just a few. Since then they’ve remixed for the likes of Don Diablo on Sony, and Camo & Krooked on Hospital, and have been in high demand for their high energy DJ sets all over the UK and Europe, and have proudly formed part of the Ram XX tour. On the horizon, the next Mind Vortex installment is due very soon, and be sure to catch them at the Ram label nights at Fabric for sneak previews of upcoming releases.

Mefjus

Mefjus is a new producer hailing from Austria who’s name has been amassing quite a following amongst the drum & bass hierarchy of late. Amongst a plethora of other young Austrian artists, Mefjus is the one that stands out and for good reason; his brand of jaw-dropping, proper tech-infused beats and bass is like no other and now as he teams up with Critical he looks set to hit the worldwide stage.

In the studio Mefjus combines a deft touch with astute technical skills, creating the kind of hard hitting tracks that have made it into the sets of the great and the good of drum and bass including, Andy C, Friction, Phace , Rockwell and more.

Having signed tracks to labels such as Neosignal and more it was the ears of renowned Critical label boss Kasra that cottoned on early to secure Mefjus as a fully fledged member of the Critical Music squad.

CIRCUIT BENT (ADAPTED RECORDS)

Eli and Jesse were manufactured inside the bowels of a top secret laboratory for the purpose of being super soldiers hell bent on world domination. After the mad scientists realized the true nature of the monsters they had created they tried to destroy the foul creatures they had spawned but were overwhelmed by the sonic insanity and bled to death from their ears. To this day the location of Eli and Jess is unknown, but their presence on the internet is evidence that the world is still not safe from the global menace lurking around the corner.

THE MOLLUSK (OMELETTE RECORDS)

Mollusk aka Shane Vigo started back in 2007 as a solo project. “Breaking convention” is Mollusk’s middle name, constantly pushing forward to create a new and interesting sound. These include recordings of a spray can underwater for “synth’s”, circuit bending toys for “bass lines” and wet towels thrown at a brick wall for “snare’s”, among hundreds of other hair brain & fun ideas to create sound art. After recording these sounds, a select few are re-worked in the studio to become huge bass line, synthesis, percussion and other quirky re-creations designed to blow the minds of punters at The Mollusk’s legendary live sets.
Those prepared to dive into the dance floor will certainly get much more than they bargain for. Swimming though a mix of luscious sound scapes mixed with grinding bass lines and topped with a mix of funk, glitch and wobble.

cTRIX (LIVE AMIGA 500, GAMEBOY, GP2X)

More retro technology than you can poke a POKE command at, cTrix has been rocking the Commodore Amiga since 1993 writing bouncy techno, funky beats, power synth and cheaky jungle. His secret weapon is a box of floppies and a modified version of the classic Protracker. He is also known for rocking a party using nothing but a 1980′s era Gameboy – so while we can’t tell you exactly what is going to happen, we can guarantee it’ll be a fun time.

BLACKMAGE [LIVE AV MASHUP + CHIPHOP/8 BIT DUBSTEP]

Hacked gameboys, MIDI sync’d NES consoles, Xbox Kinect + webcams triggering an ADHD visual feed consisting of open source/modded/bendy/chip/h4xed enthusiasm.

DYZLEXIC CM + LICKWEED (TWISTED AUDIO)

Dyzlexic is an MC that prides himself on his ability to amp up a crowd and keep the party moving without being self-indulgent.
From rapid-fire double time rhymes to flowing lyrical verses and melodic hooks with call and responses he has a style to suit every rhythm.

Recently stepping into the Melbourne Dubstep and DnB scenes he is now making a name for himself having MCed for the likes of Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Excision, Camo & Krooked, Futurebound, B-Complex, SPL, 12th Planet and Droid Sector.

Dj Lickweed is a DnB/Breaks/Glitch Hop DJ originally from Israel and now based out of Melbourne, Australia.

First started DJing in 2003 and was mainly involved in the Hip-Hop / Turntabilisim scene back in Israel.
In 2004 he was first exposed to the underground DnB & Breakbeat scene and fell in love with the sound, vibe and the world that is Broken Beat.

Lickweed has played alongside numerous artists such as Andy C, Stanton Warriors, A Skills, DJ Marky, Scratch Perverts, Excision, Mampi Swift, Camo & Krooked, Crissy Criss, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Loadstar, Kenny Ken, Aphrodite, Cyantific and many more.

Expect bass heavy banging tunes, fast mixing sprinkled with some beat juggling and scratching skills when this bad-boy jumps on the wheels of steel.

SLUDGE JUNKIES (HOPSKOTCH RECS)

Conjured by the treacherous Professor Muck in the underground sewers of a nuclear power plant, these perverse creatures, who we humans call “Chris” and “Ariel” draw you deep into their spell with bowel infecting basslines, twisted melodies and obscene and raunchy samples.

With disturbing yet entertaining qualities, the sludge they produce in their live shows takes many, many showers to wash off. So be careful when tasting the sludge, as their powers grow so to do the numbers of Sludge Junkies junkies.

WYLDCARD + BELLZ (HOPSKOTCH RECS)

Wyldcard is Sean Bradney-George, rapper and producer residing in Melbourne. Gaining momentum from his recent self-released “Insane Thoughts” EP, attention is building around the country for this young chap. With fast, witty and conscious lyricism combined with unique bass heavy and quirky production, Wyldcard will make you think and dance simultaneously.

2013 sees an exciting horizon for this project, with an album of collaborations set for release through Hopskotch records very soon. I also put on nights in Melbourne fairly regularly, including a series at My Aeon called “Epic Concoction”. Wyldcard is know regularly to play with producer Gunk, and has performed and collaborated with such acts as Editor, Dysphemic and Miss Eliza, Blatwax and Kalya Skintilla, to name a few out of an ever-expanding list of creative combinations.
